Die Abenteuer des
Werner Holt (The Adventures of Werner Holt) Synopsis: A pair of 17 year-olds, Werner Holt and Gilbert Wolzow, are pulled out of school and conscripted into Hitler's army. Gilbert is a fanatical soldier. At the front Werner begins to realize the senselessness of the war and leaves his friend. But when Gilbert is hung by the SS, Werner turns his gun on his own army. This film, based on Dieter Noll’s novel, is a politically and artistically important piece of its time. Its fresh and surprising frankness about the toll war takes on youth generated much public resonance. |
