Bachelor
of Arts
The Bachelor of Arts degree offers a liberal arts education and
allows students to combine studies in dance with other fields of interest.
Students are required to take eight courses in technique, and fourteen
courses in dance theory. A Senior Project is required. Courses may be
selected from the technique idioms of ballet, modern dance, and jazz.
Academic courses include dance history, composition, rhythmic analysis,
scientific foundations of dance and dance production.
Bachelor of Fine Arts
The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree requires intensive study in dance
techniques and theory. Students are required to take sixteen courses in
technique and fourteen courses in dance theory. A Senior Project is required.
Courses may be selected from the technique idioms of ballet, modern dance,
and jazz. Academic courses include dance history, composition, rhythmic
analysis, scientific foundations of dance and dance production.

Faculty: There are
approximately fifty Music faculty members and seven Dance
faculty members.
Performance Opportunities:
Dance program: 3 University concerts presented annually, plus the January
Tour.
Five College Opportunities:
A total Music faculty of 83 and Dance faculty of 13. Additional performance
opportunities with the Five College Early Music Program and Collegium
Musicum, Five College Choral Festival, Five College Dance Department Concert.
In total, some 2,000 faculty members and 5,000 courses available to Five
College students at no added cost.

Procedure:
Our dual admissions process requires an audition for the Department
and completion of University Admissions Office application procedures
by the appropriate deadlines.
Auditions:
Required for admission to all dance programs and held in the late fall
and spring. Dance Audition dates for 2008-09 are as follows:
Friday, October 24, 2008 9:30 am
Friday, March 6, 2009 9:30 am and 1:45 pm
Friday, March 27, 2009 9:30 am and 1:45 pm

Visits:
We welcome visits by prospective students and their families. Our office
can arrange meetings with faculty and students, attendance at classes
and rehearsals, and a tour of the Fine Arts Center. Please contact the
