Activities during ADR Cyberweek will fall into four categories: Demos and Simulations, Discussions, Dispute Processing, and Special Activities and Events

Demos and  Simulations

For dispute resolution processes to flourish online, it is necessary for there to be software that assists and guides settlement. Some of the following applications are operational now and some are nearing completion. We have arranged for role players to take part in simulations that you can observe and are also providing opportunities for you to interact directly with  some of the software. The hands on opportunities are, not surprisingly, identified with the following symbol - hand.gif (132 bytes)  Here are a few of the demos and simulations that will be available.

One Accord - One Accord is a  software product developed by One Accord Technologies that assists parties to find optimal win-win solutions in multi-party negotiations. One Accord solicits detailed preference information and employs an optimization algorithm to generate alternatives for parties to consider. Beginning shortly before Cyberweek, two role players will attempt to use One Accord to settle a hypothetical environmental dispute. The role players will keep a log that will enable you to observe their strategies and see whether One Accord suggested viable options for settlement.

CyberTribunal - CyberTribunal is an online mediation and arbitration service developed at the University of Montreal Faculty of Law. Several simulations involving CyberTribunal will occur during Cyberweek.

Resolution Forum - Resolution Forum is a real-time "chat" system developed in Houston, Texas that is tailored for the Mediation/Arbitration process. At specified times during Cyberweek, role players will try to settle a hypothetical dispute. You will be able to log on and observe the process.

hand.gif (132 bytes)  The Third Party is a set of java applets developed at the University of Massachusetts Center for Information Technology and Dispute Resolution that can be employed at different stages of the mediation or consensus building process. These include the following:

hand.gif (132 bytes)  Dispute Map/Outliner - An application that allows parties to identify issues and interests and, by placing them on screen, reach agreement on what the dispute is about.

hand.gif (132 bytes)  Calendar - Explore the opportunities presented by an online group calendar for setting agendas and timelines.

hand.gif (132 bytes)  GroupText/SingleText - An application developed by Patrick Wiseman of the Georgia State University College of Law to allow a group to work together on a document stored on a Web site (as opposed to circulating multiple copies of a document for comment and editing).

DecisionRoom - You will have an opportunity to try out DecisionRoom, an innovative online "space" for meeting and resolving problems.
