Student Organizations
& Resources
With over 280 registered student organizations (RSOs), UMass Amherst covers a lot of ground and most interests. Joining a student organization is the ideal way to make yourself at home, meet like-minded people, get some experience, and simply have fun.
The groups include community service organizations, student government, ethnic and cultural groups, religious and spiritual organizations, fraternity and sororities, student run businesses, media related groups, groups that grow from academic interests, and groups dedicated to athletics and recreation, socializing, arts and entertainment, and politics.
Getting Involved
Where do you begin? What are you into (or what would you like to be into)? Who do you want to meet: people who share your political or religious beliefs, your cultural identity? What kind of experience do you want to get: political, business, community activism? Do you want to build your skills as a leader, coordinator, listener, organizer, or do you want to get out onto the basketball court. Do you want to find a group that complements your academic interests or one that will help you get a job after graduation?
Next step: Go through the list of student organizations to find one that interests you. Call the CSD (413-545-3600) with questions and contact information for the groups that interest you, visit websites, talk to friends already involved in these groups. Keep your eyes out for ads in the Collegian or flyers on bulletin boards. Keep an open mind.
