Fraternities and Sororities

Fraternities and Sororities bring together many of the best elements of UMass Amherst’s student life, synthesizing academics, social life, community service, sports and recreation, and career development in an individual organization.

There are several kinds of Greek organizations (called so because of their Greek letter names) with differing missions, including those formed around academic interests, those with a community service focus, and groups with more general interests. Students may also choose traditionally African-American, Latino/Latina, Asian-American, and multicultural fraternities and sororities. As with all Greek organizations, these are open to anyone, no matter their background.

Most of the fraternities and sororities on campus participate in a formal recruitment process in the fall and then have a more open process during other parts of the year. You can jump into the process as a freshman, or wait until later.
