Availability of Devrinol 50DF

Devrinol 50DF is a dry-flowable product that can be injected through the irrigation system, similar to Kerb or other products. Many growers have contacted the Station to inquire about the availability of the new formulation of Devrinol.

The use of Devrinol 50DF has been approved at the state level, but NOT at the Federal level.

The MDAR has approved the use of Devrinol 50DF under a special local needs label (24c). The paperwork has been forwarded to EPA. EPA has 90 days to reject the package. They will only let us know if they have an issue or problem with the request. The 90 days will likely expire in early to mid May. AFTER the 90-day period has elapsed, it will be legal to apply the 50DF to producing and nonproducing bogs.

MY RECOMMENDATION: Plan to use the Devrinol 10G formulation for Spring 2005 preemergence applications. The "OK" to use the 50DF will come too late for our application window. If you are planting new beds in May or June, you can plan on using the 50DF about 3-4 weeks after planting.

I will contact local ag suppliers and update the web as soon as I hear anything from EPA or MDAR.

Please contact Hilary at ext 21 if you have further questions.
