IPM Research Technician

Position now available for 32-40 hours per week to work in varied aspects of weed ecology and IPM. Position to start in April or as soon as a qualified applicant is found. The position will continue through the summer and could be extended to a year-round position if mutually agreed upon.

Pay would be $12 per hr; possibly more depending on experience and knowledge level.  This is a non-benefitted position.  Duties would include establishing and maintaining field experiments concerning dodder and cranberry vine establishment, collecting and evaluating vine samples, applying fertilizers and some herbicides.  There will be data entry and opportunity to do statistics depending on the skill level of the applicant.

Temporary Farm Worker

The University of Massachusetts Cranberry Station in East Wareham is in need of a temporary farm worker to assist in raising cranberries on approximately 20 acres of bog. Duties will include fertilization, sprinkler system repair and upkeep, weeding and learning about Integrated Pest Management on cranberries. Duties will also include assistance in facility maintenance, vehicle repair, landscaping and janitorial work as needed. This is a temporary position perfect for a college student interested in farming, research support and working outdoors for the summer. Ideally the person will be able to work 15-20 hours starting mid April and move up to 40 hours in the summer then dropping back down to 20 hours through mid-October. Hourly wage is $8.00. The UMass Cranberry Station, a research and extension center of UMass-Amherst, is located in the heart of the cranberry growing region. Our facilities include an 11 acre research cranberry bog, greenhouse, and laboratories. The Cranberry Station currently houses faculty specializing in Plant Pathology, Entomology, Environmental Physiology, Plant Nutrition/Cultural Practices, and IPM/Weed Science.
