Medical Device Design; Engineering Design; Design Optimization; Additive Manufacturing
Our group has an established track-record in advanced engineering modeling and simulation as a member of the NSF-I/UCRC Center for e-Design and a well-funded, multidisciplinary research program in medical device design and development in collaboration with medical schools and medical device companies. Our ongoing research efforts include identification of novel fat-grafting techniques and bariatric treatment procedures in collaboration with the UMass Medical School and engineering analysis of prolapsed tissue scaffold structure on collaboration with the Boston Scientific Inc.
Our medical device studies cover the entire spectrum of product realization starting with problem and need identification via prior art search, customer survey, and clinical evaluations to brainstorming and concept generations through advanced engineering modeling and simulation to product portfolio finalization using advanced 3-D printing and related manufacturing processes. As such, we address both fundamental and translational research in medical device design innovation through engineering analysis, design optimization, and additive manufacturing.
