In 2012, the UMass Football team began a new era as a member of the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the NCAA. The $34.5 million, 55,000 S.F. Football Performance Center was designed to revitalize the aging McGuirk Alumni Stadium, provide a center of excellence for the football program, and enhance both game and everyday experience for the football team and entire university community.
The new center consolidates all of the team’s needs in one location, and serves as an important recruiting tool. The expanded facilities include a new press box, strength and conditioning areas, a sports medicine facility with ten treatment tables and plunge pools, an auditorium for team meetings, a player’s lounge, faculty and coaching offices, locker rooms, equipment storage, and laundry facilities.
The new building provides student athletes with a state-of-the-art facility to hone their athletic and academic performance, positioning the football team for present and future success. The building is LEED Gold Certified.
