The focus of my work embraces training, supervision, and psychotherapy. I approach the work from a humanistic orientation, and in practice attempt to promote behavior change using the principles of cognitive behavioral psychology. Clinically, I have a special interest in the anxiety disorders and integrate biofeedback and self regulation strategies into protocols for their treatment.

In my work at CAS, I have two major foci: the supervision and training of advanced practicum students and coodinator of clinical service. My major clinical interest is in the design and implementation of multi-modal approaches to trauma-recovery in the biological, cognitive, and affective realms. I have a research interest in the area of memory and attention deficits in women who were sexually abused as children. Object relations theory and self-in-relation theory constitute my primary theoretical underpinnings.

I am a staff psychologist and the coordinator of the Program for Students with Psychological Disabilities. My major clinical and theoretical interests lie in the diagnosis and treatment of the whole spectrum of learning difficulties - from the psychological underpinnings of work inhibitions such as writing anxiety to the etiology and assessment of Learning Disabilities. I am interested in what factors impact a student's ability both to learn and to work to capacity and in what clinical and academic support interventions may aid in empowering the student to succeed. I am also interested in psychodynamic theory and its clinical applications and in feminist psychoanalytic theory, with a special interest in separation issues and their applicability to a student's ability to work to his/her potential.

As a family therapist, I am interested in the multigenerational and socio-cultural discourses that shape the way we story ourselves, and in the ways therapeutic conversation can help change those stories when they are no longer helpful. In particular, I am interested in exploring the collaborative, reflective stance that demystifies therapy, and in expanding that approach to other domains such as consultation and supervision. My research has been in the area of narrative theory and the reflecting team process, and in the area of life cycle ritual and family health development. Cross campus, I have worked for many years with issues of diversity and social justice.

In my work at CAS, my primary role involves the overall coordination of Learning Disability and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder assessments. This role includes administrative work as well as the direct supervision of interns regarding assessment cases. My intersts lie in all aspects of assessment, including Learning Disabilities, ADHD, and personality functioning. I am specifically interested in the impact that psychological factors (e.g., mood and anxiety disorders, severe and persistent mental illness) have on one’s level of cognitive functioning and academic performance. I particularly enjoy working with student athletes, members of fraternities and sororities, and international students. In addition to the assessment of learning difficulties, I also have a strong interest in the intersection between psychology and law enforcement; I serve as a consultant to the University of Massachusetts Amherst Police Department.
