Raytheon Corporation, an industry leader in defense and government electronics, space, information technology, technical services, and business aviation and special mission aircraft, is a key industry member of the campus’ Center for Adaptive Sensing of the Atmosphere, an Engineering Research Center funded by the National Science Foundation. Through membership, Raytheon finds access to UMass Amherst engineering and computer science students, links to university partners in Puerto Rico, Colorado and Oklahoma, business and technology development.

PTC, one of the largest independent software companies in the world with a commitment to supporting the product development needs of manufacturing companies worldwide, chose to establish a scholarship at UMass to forever remember a valued employee killed on 9/11/01. A company representative sits on the industry advisory council of the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering department and the company has donated software for use in classes. The company was a founding member of the E-Design Center a federally-funded, multi-university, multi-industry collaboration to improve product design across industries.

MassMutual, a Fortune 100 company with global growth-oriented diversified financial services, offers the Isenberg School of Management Professional MBA degree program to qualified employees. The results are improved creativity and productivity by program graduates and a closer relationship between the company and program faculty.

Chemical Engineering alumni at GE Plastics have used their own contributions and the company’s match to name a laboratory in the new Engineering Building on campus.

Procter & Gamble, the world’s #1 maker of household products with one of the largest and strongest portfolios of trusted brands, is a long-time member of the Center for UMass/Industry Research on Polymers, a world-renowned collaborative center for research and doctoral education in polymers.

PricewaterhouseCooper, a “Big Four” accounting firm that is integral to the creation of value in markets around the world, has funded a room at the Isenberg School of Management on campus in recognition of the high number of graduates recruited each year.

Bank of America is a sponsor of the campus Fine Arts Center programming, supporting top programming and offering a benefit to area customers and bank employees.

Texas Instruments sponsors a design competition in the Mechanical Engineering capstone course. The company has become more visible to engineering seniors and the challenge offers a competitive design experience to undergraduate students.

Microsoft named UMass Amherst the first in the nation Showcase School for Information Technology. The company funds faculty research and experimental use of instructional software.

Goldman Sachs is a member of the Center for International Securities and Derivatives Management at the Isenberg School of Management. The company gains professional development for employees, access to top finance students and a bi-annual opportunity to discuss issues and research with faculty and cooperative competitors.

 

Each year over 30 companies invite Isenberg School of Management MBA students to do a practicum project (case study) on a real company problem. The companies get new ideas for solutions and the students get valuable corporate experience.

In early 2006 the American Heart Association donated $260,000 to UMass Amherst scientists to help combat the growing obesity problem in the United States, a problem that afflicts more than 60 million adults and an increasing number of children and teens.
