The new Multimedia Language Lab will enhance second-language learning at UMass and help prepare a new century of UMass students for our increasingly global society by providing:

  • A fully-redesigned and centrally-located lab (within Herter Annex) with proximity to all of the University’s foreign language teaching/learning programs and related resources.
  • An interactive space for the introduction of new digital technologies, including those that will enable students to meet and converse with their peers in other parts of the world through audio and video conferencing.
  • An adaptable setting for the integration of various group- and distance-learning scenarios as well as enhanced one-on-one instruction, independent study, and faculty research.
  • 9 additional Sanako 100 Audio Learning Stations for a total of 24 in the lab.
  • 10 iMac stations allowing students access to a wealth of computer- and internet-based language learning and interpretive tools, including specialized Asian languages word-processing software.
