Several nursery rhymes and lullabies contain brutal imagery.  Grimm Brother's, notwithstanding, and as frightening as the background featuring Edmund Dulac's (1882-1953) illustrations of Little Red Riding Hood appear --take a look at this Brazilian lullaby and the way that new mother and scholar, Lilian Feitosa changes it.

Nana nenê, que a Cuca vem pegar

Papai foi na roça, mamãe já vai chegar

Sleep baby, that the Cuca [a monster] comes to get you

Daddy is working in t he fields, and mommy is coming soon.

Nana neném, nana meu neném

Mamãe te ama muito, e teu papai também.

Sleep baby, sleep my baby

Mommy loves you so much, and daddy does too
