Amherst Community Band Holiday Concert

Amherst Community Band and Director Tim Anderson

One of my favorite community activities is playing alto saxophone with the Amherst Community Band (ACB).  The ACB was formed in the 1970s and enjoys a diverse membership of townsfolk including university students, staff and faculty, and students from Amherst Regional High School.  Although best known for our summer concerts, notably the annual 4th of July concert at McGuirk Alumni Stadium, for the past two years we’ve partnered with the Amherst Business Improvement District for a holiday concert.  This year we performed a repertoire of popular and holiday favorites at the Amherst Masonic Lodge to an appreciative audience.  As ACB director, Dr. Tim Anderson -- who conducts the UMass Minuteman Marching Band -- has observed, the ACB is an ideal example of town-gown harmony, one where people from all walks of life come together to perform and enjoy music.  For me, it’s one of the most meaningful holiday traditions!
