Six graduates of the Communication program at UMass Amherst returned to campus on October 27, 2016, to offer career guidance to current students. These alumni, representing Comm graduates from four different decades, convened in the Communication Hub on the third floor of the ILC and shared their career paths and journeys with a packed room of Comm majors. We invite you to learn more about these terrific alums who so generously provided career counseling and support to our students:

Karyn MartinKaryn Martin '01

The politest pit bull you'll ever meet; I persevere where others fold. I cut my teeth in agency PR at a boutique firm in Portland, Maine where I worked with top outdoor brands. I returned to my Boston roots to build up the "Martin Farm" (currently 2 dogs, 6 chickens and a turtle) and expand my PR experience into technology, luxury goods, travel, and healthcare. My retention rate for both clients and employees is above 85%. Why? Because I create environments where people do their best work, generating award-winning campaigns to help clients exceed their goals.

In 2010, I seized the opportunity to be a part of the future of communication, joining 451 to create integrated campaigns that defy the old adage that PR doesn't translate to dollars. Although I prefer pink, I thrive in the grey... where traditional PR practices are combined with new digital media tactics to amplify messaging and cement measurable results.

I'm former President of the Publicity Club of New England, Founder of Press Previews, a UMass Legacy, and a Sagittarius with the gift of gab. You need a problem solved? I'm your girl.
