Donal Carbaugh Named NCA Distinguished Scholar

The National Communication Association has selected Prof. Donal Carbaugh as a 2016 Distinguished Scholar. The Distinguished Scholar Award is NCA's highest honor and recognizes a lifetime of scholarly achievement in the study of communication. Prof. Carbaugh was recognized by his peers for his work as a leading scholar in culture, discourse, and language and as preeminent scholar of the ethnography of communication with a focus on language & social interaction.

Since the appearance of his first book, Talking American: Cultural Discourses on Donahue, Prof. Carbaugh has published 19 books and edited collections, 56 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and 45 book chapters. "The Communication discipline has a long tradition of exceptional scholarship," NCA Executive Director Nancy Kidd said. "We're proud to recognize Dr. Carbaugh's contributions with this well-deserved award."

Prof. Carbaugh will receive his award at NCA's annual convention in Philadelphia this November.
