Grad Alumna Elected President of ICA
Paula Gardner, who earned a PhD in Communication from UMass Amherst in 2001, has been chosen as President Elect Select of the International Communication Association. She is currently Associate Professor and Asper Chair in Communications at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Her research interests include feminist media studies, digital culture, and affective and biometric technological practices. Click here for the announcement of her ICA presidency election.
By felicitous coincidence, another former member of UMass Amherst's program in Communication was recently elected to high office; Star Muir, who served the department as a lecturer and director of debate in the early 1980s, is now Second Vice President Elect of the National Communication Association (NCA).
