The National Communication Association has selected Prof. Donal Carbaugh as a 2016 Distinguished Scholar. The Distinguished Scholar Award is NCA's highest honor and recognizes a lifetime of scholarly achievement in the study of communication. Prof. Carbaugh was recognized by his peers for his work as a leading scholar in culture, discourse, and language and as preeminent scholar of the ethnography of communication with a focus on language & social interaction.

Students in Prof. Jarice Hanson's Comm 497T course (Advanced Issues in Information Technology and Society) worked in groups to create a podcast that covers a range of topics that present challenges for the future. The students identified key social, economic, and policy issues that will change the way we think about children, sustainable environments, sports, online gaming, unemployment, and travel. The Department of Communication has announced a week-long summer program for high school students interested in honing their media literacy and production skills. The program titled "Create/Critique," will be taught by Prof. Allison Butler and will take full advantage of the department's state-of-the-art production facilities in the Integrative Learning Center.
