Mary Gray, Associate Professor of Communication at Indiana University and Senior Researcher with the Microsoft Research Institute, will give a talk titled "Making Sense of Crowdwork: A Grounded Approach to the Political Economies of Digital Labor."  Her talk will take place on Tuesday, April 1 at 12:00 to 1:45 in 903 Campus Center.

Department of Communication's Alumni Career Event

The Communication Department's annual alumni career event will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25 in the Cape Cod Lounge in the Student Union.  At least a half dozen COMM alums at various stages of their careers will be returning to campus that day to meet with current COMM students and offer career advice and support.

Mari Castañeda will take part in a panel discussion titled "Meaningful Student Activism: Finding Your Voice in College."  Other participants will include Graciela Monteagudo of the Social Thought and Political Economy (STPEC) Program and Jennifer Sandler of the Anthropology Dept.  This event, organized by the UMass Amherst Defined Residential Communities, will take place on Tuesday, February 26, at 5-7 p.m. at the University Club.

Henri Hebert, a Los Angeles-based COMM alumna (class of '94), has produced episodes for such television programs as The X Factor, Pregnant & Dating, and Beverly Hills Pawn.  She will return to campus on Thursday, Nov. 14, to discuss these and other post-graduation career experiences.  Her talk will take place at 7 p.m. in room 803 of the Campus Center and is free and open to the public.  For a listing of Henri's credits at the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), click here.

Flirting with Danger: Power and Choice in Heterosexual Relationships, a documentary from the Media Education Foundation, will be shown on Tuesday, Oct. 22 in 65 Bartlett Hall.  A Q&A session with Prof. Lynn Phillips, on whose work the film is based and who is featured in the film, will immediately follow the screening.
