In his keynote speech for the "Communication in Crisis" conference, Mark Crispin Miller, renowned media critic and professor in the Department of Communication and Culture at New York University spoke about serious problems with the 2004 presidential election, and other important topics not reported by mainstream media outlets. On April 9, 2006 his presentation was aired at 1:00 pm and 11:00 pm onthe C-SPAN2 program "Book-TV." Miller is known for hard-hitting books like The Bush Dyslexicon: Observations on a National Disorder and Cruel and Unusual: Bush/Cheney's New World Order. He has appeared on programs such as The Newshour,The O'Reilly Factor, and The Daily Show, and has performed several critically-acclaimed one-man shows, including "Operation American Freedom." 'His latest book, a critical examination of the 2004 presidential election, is titled 'Fooled Again.'

The "Communication in Crisis" conference, organized and hosted by the Communication Graduate Student Association took place on campus March 31 - April 1, 2006. The conference critically examined the concept of "crisis" as it shapes the study and practices of communications.
