Background

Current research projects examine the formation of transnational cultures of protest: alternative media systems, collective identity and mobilization in the environmental and in the far right social movements; the cross-national diffusion of far right frames and cyber-protest practices in Europe; expanding social citizenship: media coverage of protests against precarious labor in Europe and of labor protests of illegal immigrants in the U.S.; and global risks (avian flu, SARS), attributions of blame in the news media and the neoliberal governance of risk.
