Welcome
Under threatening skies and amid chilly temperatures, the atmosphere was festive and upbeat at the 131st Commencement of the University of Massachusetts. About 4,000 undergraduates from 34 states and 21 countries, ranging in age from 16 to 57, received their bachelor’s degrees in nearly 100 majors during the morning’s ceremonies at Warren P. McGuirk Alumni Stadium. About 18,000 family members and friends attended. Chancellor David K. Scott presided over the ceremonies; President William Bulger conferred the degrees.

In addition, the graduates were addressed by Emmy Award-winning actor Kelsey Grammer, and Jeff Taylor, the Monster.com CEO who returned to UMass to complete the bachelor’s degree he began - and came within 30 credits of finishing – 23 years ago.

The Alumni Association
Congratulations to this year’s graduates, who now join the more than 180,000 UMass alumni worldwide. The University of Massachusetts Amherst Alumni Association—a vibrant, multi-faceted organization serving the University and its alumni since 1872—welcomes the Class of 2001 with free, one-year Association memberships.

The Alumni Association hopes that graduates in the Class of 2001 will take advantage of their membership and keep in touch as they change jobs and addresses. The Association is just a click away at www.zMinutemen.com, a Web site where members can update addresses, find classmates and friends, and create their own homepages.

Members of the Alumni Association also receive a subscription to the Alumni Connection (the Association’s official newsletter that highlights member benefits, events, discounts, and programs) and UMass Magazine, the University’s quarterly publication. Other membership benefits include career management programs, young alumni travel, social events, discounted movie tickets, and price breaks on preparation courses for the GMAT, GRE, LSAT and MCAT.

Stay connected and help us keep the “U” in UMass.

Alumni Career Services
The services of the Campus Career Network are available to all alumni. Advice, preparation for job searches, résumé preparation, referral to prospective employers, and (for recent graduates) campus interviewing and internships, are just some of the resources it provides.

Please visit www-ccn.acad.umass.edu or call (413) 545-2224 for further information and appointments.
