Stella L. Volpe, Ph.D., R.D., FACSM, is an assistant professor in the
Department of Nutrition, Director of Center for Nutrition in Sport and Human
Performance, and an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Exercise
Science, all at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Dr. Volpe arrived
in the Fall of 1994 after completing a two-year National Institutes of Health,
post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California at Berkeley, Department
of Nutritional Sciences. She has a B.S. in Exercise Science from the University
of Pittsburgh. She has an M.S. in Exercise Physiology/Cardiac Rehabilitation,
and a Ph.D. in Human Nutrition, both from Virginia Polytechnic Institute
and State University. Dr. Volpe is certified by the American College of
Sports Medicine as a Preventive and Rehabilitative Exercise Specialist and
is also a Registered Dietitian. She primarily conducts human clinical research
in the areas of mineral metabolism in exercise; obesity and weight loss;
and body composition. She is a Fellow of the American College of Sports
Medicine (FACSM); a member of the American Society for Nutritional Sciences,
the American Society of Clinical Nutrition, the American Dietetic Association,
and its dietetic practice group, SCAN (Sports, Cardiovascular, Wellness,
and Eating Disorder Nutritionists), the New York Academy of Sciences, the
International Society of Exercise and Immunology, Sigma Xi: The Scientific
Research Society, and the Women's Sports Foundation. |
