Faculty members associated with the Center International Education are active in development education in field settings as well as being involved in academic research and publication based on their experience.  The teaching and research activities in the International Education program are informed by the current development experience of both faculty and students. Effective Education Program Design and Management in Crisis and Conflict Settings – A Training Course in Ethiopia

Ash Hartwell and the Education in Crisis and Conflict (ECCN) team at UMass led the design activity and helped implement a three-day course for USAID Foreign Service Officers and Foreign Service Nationals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.   The UMass group is part of the larger ECCN project managed by EDC.

CIE & Open Society Foundations - 1998 to Present

Since 1998 CIE has enjoyed a long and productive relationship with the Open Society Foundations (OSF) scholarship programs.  Over the years this relationship has brought three different groups of scholars to study at CIE. Dr, Gretchen Rossman, pictured here with Larissa Chekmareva, one of the students from Kazakhstan, has acted as the liaison faculty member with OSF throughout this period.  CIE looks forward to more OSF sponsored students in the future.

CIE Well Represented at USAID Global Education Summit

CIE was represented by fourteen faculty members, graduates and current students at USAID’s Global Education Summit in Washington, D.C. on November 2-4, 2015. The event drew over 700 USAID Education Officers, partners and education leaders from Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America/Caribbean to share knowledge and experience related to USAID’s three Education Goals.

DRE Named the 2014 Honorary Fellow of CIES!

David R. Evans was named the 2014 Honorary Fellow of the Comparative & International Education Society at the awards session during annual CIES conference in Toronto in March.  This award honors the lifetime achievement and contribution to the field of Comparative and International Education of the Fellow.
