Monday class schedule

Due to the observance of Columbus Day, a Monday class scheduled will be followed on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Additional personnel needed for snow removal

Physical Plant's Grounds Department is seeking additional overtime personnel to assist with snow removal.

Staff will be assigned to hand-shoveling or snowblowing in Landscape Services' Zone 1 (west side of campus) or Zone 2 (east side) or North Village. The minimum work shift is two hours.

Once the snow response plan is established, the appropriate Landscape Services supervisor will notify personnel on what time to report. Staff will be expected to work whenever the snow response plan is activated.

Any individual who misses two consecutive overtime calls will be removed from the overtime call list.

A signup sheet for overtime snow removal is available at the Grounds Management Department, 5-6528.

Stonewall Center extends hours

The Stonewall Center has added extra hours two days per week. Located in Crampton House in Southwest, the center is now open Tuesday, 9 a.m.-10 p.m. and Wednesday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Regular hours on Monday, Thursday and Friday are 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Community members are welcome to drop by and check out the center's library of books and videos, surf the Internet, watch a movie, do classwork or socialize.

The center also hosts movie night on Tuesdays at 9 p.m.

A pizza party is planned for 6 p.m. on Oct. 30.

New WORLD Theater hosts dinner for Uno, Wilks

Founding artistic director Roberta Uno and interim artistic director Talvin Wilks will be honored by New WORLD Theater at an appreciation dinner on Wednesday, Oct. 16 before the Rubí Theater production of "Imagine the Angels of Bread" at 8 p.m.

In late summer, Uno began an extended leave to serve as a program officer for arts and culture with the Ford Foundation in New York.

Tickets for the dinner, to be held at the Top of the Campus, are $25. Seating is limited and reservations are required. Call New WORLD Theater at 5-1972.

Commencement dates set

As fall semester moves into high gear, Commencement planners are asking members of the campus community to look ahead and note the following ceremonies and dates on their calendars:
Graduate School, Saturday, May 24, 10:30 a.m., Mullins Center.
Stockbridge School of Agriculture, Saturday, May 24, 2 p.m., Bowker Auditorium.

Undergraduate, Sunday, May 25, 10 a.m., McGuirk Alumni Stadium.
Advance coordination is critical to avoid Commencement-related calendar conflicts for the chancellor, provost and other senior administrators, so requests for participation should be made as soon as possible. Notify Gloria Fox, Commencement coordinator, 5-4203, regarding proposed event dates.

Faculty Senate meeting canceled

The Faculty Senate meeting scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 17, has been canceled. The next meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 31 at 3:30 p.m. in 227 Herter Hall.

Want to start an exercise program?

The Exercise Science Department is seeking women for a research study to examine the relationship between insulin and exercise.

Eligible volunteers should be non-physically active women ages 18-45, not diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and not on birth control pills.

Participants will receive a bone density scan, body fat analysis, blood sugar profile and five days of personalized supervised exercise.

Environmental Health Sciences seminar

The Northeast Regional Environmental Public Health Center is sponsoring a seminar with Barbara Beck of the Gradient Corporation, Cambridge, Mass. on Thursday, Oct. 17 from 4-5 p.m. in 903 Lincoln Campus Center.

Beck will speak on "CCA-Pressure Treated Wood: Science and Politics."

Lombardi to speak at special Sports Luncheon

The Weekly Sports Luncheon on Wednesday, Oct. 16 will feature a special program honoring student-athletes with the highest grade point averages from each team.

Chancellor John Lombardi will be the guest speaker and football coach Mark Whipple will offer an update on the current season.

The luncheon is at noon in the Lincoln Campus Center Auditorium.
The buffet lunch is $6.50. Call 5-4289 for reservations.

Columbus Day observed

Columbus Day will be observed as a state holiday on Monday, Oct. 14.

Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology seminar

Thomas E. Ellenberger of Harvard Medical School will speak on "Conformational Switches in Site-specific DNA Recombination: Structural Studies of Lambda Inte-grase" on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 12:15 p.m. in the Lazare Auditorium at the Medical School in Worcester.

Application deadline for Arts in India Study Tour

Students and community members interested in participating in Alankar: Arts in India Study Tour in January must apply by Oct. 15.

Sponsored by the Asian Dance and Music Program of the Fine Arts Center, the tour is an intensive course to discover the arts and culture of India.

Coordinated in partnership with Travel Corporation of India, the tour will be hosted by Ranjanaa Devi, director of the Asian Dance and Music Program.
Students enrolled in the study tour can earn three credits after completing a research project and giving an oral presentation.

Mileage rate to change

Vice President for Management and Fiscal Affairs Stephen W. Lenhardt has announced that the mileage reimbursement rate will change from 36.5 cents per mile to 36 cents per mile, effective Jan. 1.

'DR' deadline

The last day for graduate students to drop courses with a record of "DR" is Tuesday, Oct. 15.
