$69.2m put back into higher education
The House of Representatives voted Tuesday night to restore $69.2 million in funding to public higher education, including nearly $14.3 million to the University system's maintenance appropriation.

Cevallos tapped to head Pa. university
Javier Cevallos, vice chancellor for Student Affairs and Campus Life, is stepping down June 30 to become president of Kutztown University, an 8,000-student campus in the 14-school Pennsylvania state system.

Effrat named interim dean of Education
Professor Andrew Effrat, who chairs the Department of Educational Policy, Research, and Administration, has been named the interim dean of the School of Education by Charlena Seymour, interim senior vice chancellor for Academic Affairs and provost.

O'Connor new director of Public Safety
Barbara O'Connor is the new Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Campus Life Javier Cevallos announced May 15.

Farewell reception for Paul Page
A farewell reception will be held Friday, May 31 for Paul Page, who is retiring as vice chancellor for Administration and Finance.

Libraries hit hard by cuts, Senate hears

Awards for distinguished teaching, outstanding advising presented
The campus's top teachers and academic advisors were honored this week as the three faculty and two graduate students received Distinguished Teaching Awards and Outstanding Academic Advisor Awards were presented to a faculty member and a professional staffer.

Senate vote supports RA union organizers
The Faculty Senate voted to support students fighting for recognition of the residents assistants' (RA) union after some debate at its May 9 meeting.
