RAs vote in favor of unionization

U ndergraduate resident assistants (RAs) and community development assistants (CDAs) voted Tuesday to join United Auto Workers Local 2322, the same union that represents graduate employees on campus.

About two-thirds of the 360 students eligible to vote cast ballots in the election, which favored unionization 138-88.

     A dozen ballots were challenged.

Javier Cevallos, vice chancellor for Student Affairs and Campus Life, expressed disappointment with the results. In a statement released after the vote, he said, "The University administration will meet over the next several days to consider its options and how to proceed."

Administration officials said those options could include administrative steps as well as legal action.
