Swift trims budget by $271m; some veto overrides expected
Acting Gov. Jane Swift last weekend outlined about $271 million in vetoes and reductions to the $22.6 billion state budget approved by the Legislature.

Rosenberg warns of continuing budget problems
Although the state's budget situation may have bottomed out, legislators are worried about the possibility of another bad year, State Sen. Stan Rosenberg (D-Amherst) told the Faculty Senate Nov. 29.

State, community colleges spared deep cuts by lawmakers
The state and community college systems fared considerably better than the University system during the recent legislative budget process, according to an analysis by the Board of Higher Education.

Faculty book display at State House is updated
The University faculty book display at the Massachusetts State Library in the State House got a face lift Dec. 4 as the decade-old installation was replaced with recent publications. Faculty Senate Research Library Council chair Robert Rothstein borrowed 14 books produced in the last four years to showcase faculty writing.

'New Approach' shifts campus diversity and community efforts to
local levels

A new long-term effort to address community and diversity issues on campus at the unit level is about to begin a visible phase as team members start assessing the climate within each of the five executive areas.

Water polo team finishes 4th in US
The Minutemen were outgunned by Stanford University and Loyola Mary-mount in the Final Four of the NCAA Men's Water Polo Tournament last weekend in Palo Alto, Calif.
