Trustees see tight
finances through 2004
Absent a state budget and amid a worsening economic
climate, fiscal challenges and opportunities were the focus of much
of the Board of Trustees meeting Wednesday in the Mullins Center.
Room, board rates increased
The Board of Trustees voted Wednesday to increase
the average student housing rent and food service charge in fiscal
year 2003 by $307 to a total of $5,422 on the Amherst campus, a
6 percent increase.
PTC gives $100k for
scholarships Fund memorializes Sept. 11 victims
The Needham-based software company PTC has donated
$100,000 to the University system to create a scholarship fund in
memory of the Massachusetts victims of the Sept. 11 tragedies.
Story hopeful contracts
will be funded
State Rep. Ellen Story (D-Amherst) told the Faculty
Senate not to worry about funding for the faculty's contract this
year but not to be surprised by an increase of as much as two-thirds
in the percentage of their health premiums paid by state employees.
Early paychecks for
Thanksgiving not on the menu at state level
The longtime practice of issuing paychecks to
University employees on the Wednesday preceding Thanksgiving has
come to end, according to Juan A. Jarrett, assistant vice chancellor
for Human Resources.
Letourneau joins
News Office
Nicole Letourneau, journalist and former legislative
aide to Rep. John F. Merrigan, has joined the staff of the News
Office as an associate news editor.

agenda for Nov. 15
The Faculty Senate will receive the annual report
of the Athletic Council at its Nov. 15 meeting at 3:30 in 227 Herter
Hall.
With $440,000 goal, COMECC
volunteers launch fund drive
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Employee Charitable
Campaign (COMECC) kicked off its attempt to raise $440,000 this
fall with a breakfast for department coordinators and 19 COMECC
charities on Oct. 24.
Graduate honors students
share their secrets of success
More than 100 graduate students who received
grants and fellowships during the past academic year were honored
Oct. 29 at the annual Graduate Student Recognition Luncheon in the
Lincoln Campus Center.
