Student killed in car accident

J unior Journalism major Ashley B. Softic, 20, died Oct. 28 from injuries sustained in a one-car accident in Royalston.

     According to police, the Athol resident was driving her car west on Winchendon Road shortly before 2 a.m. when it crossed into the eastbound lane, went through a guardrail and flipped onto its roof. Softic was pronounced dead at the scene.

     Born in Greenfield, she grew up in Athol. She was a 1999 graduate of Athol High School, where she served on the student council and was a member of the basketball, field hockey and track teams.

     She transferred to UMass after a year at Keene State College in New Hampshire.
She was a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church in Athol and worked part-time at Rafter's restaurant in Amherst.

     She leaves her parents, Enver Softic of Orange and Ellen Softic of Athol; three brothers, a sister, her paternal grandparents and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral service is planned for

     10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 2 at Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol.
