Panel to study undergraduate education

The Faculty Senate voted to establish an ad hoc committee on undergraduate education for a term of three years at its Oct. 18 meeting.

During that time, the committee is charged with providing a forum for the discussion of broader issues of undergraduate education and coordinating the work of the Academic Matters, Program and Budget, and General Education councils as is pertains to undergraduate education. The committee also will consider whether to establish a permanent council or committee on undergraduate education.

The new committee will be made up of the chairs of the Rules Committee, Academic Matters, Program and Budget, and General Education councils or their designees; three at-large members of the faculty from different schools or colleges, such that, if possible, all nine schools and colleges are represented on the committee; the associate provost for Planning and Assessment; the dean of Commonwealth College or designee; and the provost or designee. The secretary of the senate will serve as an ex officio member.
