Majors Fair to be held Nov. 1

Pre-Major Advising Services, the Commonwealth College/Honors Program and the Campus Career Network are co-sponsoring a Majors Fair on Thursday, Nov. 1, from 6-8 p.m. in the Students Union Ballroom. All students are invited to attend.

The event is an opportunity for undeclared students to explore potential areas of study while allowing current majors to learn about other options they may not know exist at the University.

Representatives from more than 70 different departments will be present to answer questions and provide literature on major requirements and opportunities.

'W' deadline is Oct. 29

Faculty are asked to remind undergraduates in their classes and departments that they have until Monday, Oct. 29 to drop a class with a "W." Doing so will have no adverse impact on their cumulative average. A "W" on one's transcript is nearly always preferable to an "F," according to Pamela Marsh-Williams, associate dean and director of the Undergraduate Advising and Academic Support Center.

"If you have not already done so, I urge you to provide some feedback to students on their performance in advance of this date," says Marsh-Williams. "Such information would encourage those who need it to get additional help in time to make a difference in their performance as well as enable students to make a more informed decision on whether to continue in a course beyond the October 29 deadline."

For more information, students should contact the office of their academic dean.
