Cevallos, Laubinger to open undergraduate
climate meeting

Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Campus Life Javier Cevallos and student trustee Jonathan Laubinger will open a conference on "Improving Campus Climate for Undergraduates" on Friday, Sept. 21, from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom.

Hosted by the University Resource Network and several campus departments, the conference is intended to highlight and share information about the exemplary practices of 20 academic departments that enhance the climate for undergraduates and thus improve retention and recruitment.

Along with attending a poster session featuring the 20 departments, conference participants will be able to consult with key faculty and staff about how to initiate innovations in their own departments. During lunch, Commonwealth College dean Linda Slakey will moderate a discussion about how the campus can continue to encourage climate-improving innovations at the departmental level.

Faculty, students and staff are welcome to attend, but are strongly encouraged to register in advance due to limited seating for lunch. For a conference program, more information or to register, e-mail Mary Duah (mduah@student.umass.edu) or call the Office of Human Relations at 5-0851.
