Convocation to welcome Class of '05 to campus

embers of the Class of 2005 will be welcomed to campus Sunday night at the annual New Student Convocation at the Mullins Center.
After the doors open at 7:20 p.m., new students will be greeted and entertained by the cheerleading squad, dance team, Minuteman mascot and the Minuteman Marching Band.
The formal program will begin at 8 with a horn fanfare by Walter Chesnut, University herald trumpeter emeritus.
The masters of ceremonies for the evening will be John Sheehan, president of the Student Government Association, and Carolyn Labuda, Student Alumni Relations Society president. Interim Chancellor Marcellette G. Williams will give her opening remarks and recognize the campus's deans and executive officers.
The featured faculty speaker will be George Parks, professor of Music and director of the Marching Band.
Maria Keegan, a Communications Disorders major from Shrewsbury, will be the student speaker.
Student trustee Jonathan Laubinger, Jess Kane, '70, president-elect of the Alumni Association, and hockey coach Don Cahoon are also scheduled to offer welcoming remarks.
Featured entertainment for the event will be the group Vocal Suspects. The Marching Band will play the "Alma Mater" and selections from its 2001 show.
Following the program, students and community members will go to the Campus Center/Student Union complex for First Night activities. The Programming Board, SGA, and Auxiliary Services are sponsoring Club 2005 at the Campus Center 11th Floor. Residence Life and the New Students Program are hosting the "Best of the Bluewall," featuring talent from the Class of 2005. Other activities for the night include the movie "Shrek," Mission Improvable, and an Outing Club program.
