Lester recovering from auto accident

by Sarah R. Buchholz, Chronicle Staff

Judaic Studies professor Julius Lester is recovering from multiple injuries sustained in a July 12 auto accident in Hadley.

Lester's car was totaled when it was struck in the rear door on the driver's side by a Dodge Ram truck.
Lester, who suffered a collapsed lung and two fractured ribs, was taken to Cooley-Dickenson Hospital, where he spent four days.

"I am now at home mulling over the symbolism of having a serious accident at the juncture of West Street and Cemetery Road," he said.

Although Lester said he has yet to determine how quickly and thoroughly he will recover, he does plan to teach Judaic Studies 360, Biblical Tales and Legends, and History 154, Social Change in the 1960s, during the upcoming semester.

"The only thing I can imagine keeping me out of the classroom this fall is death," he said.
