Obituaries

Jean A. Clarke

Jean A. Clarke, 54, of Gill, a maintainer I in Custodial Services who was on disability leave, died April 16 at a medical center in Keene, N.H.

She served the University for nearly 3 years before illness forced her to take a leave of absence in 1997. She previously worked for New England Telephone Co.

A graduate of Turners Falls High School, she was a communicant of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church and a member of the Daly-Solomon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 923 Auxiliary, both in Turners Falls.

She leaves her parents, Helen D. and Ralph V. Fronckus; a son, Christopher C. of Staten Island; a daughter, Doreen J. Recore of Greenfield; a brother, Mark D. Fronckus of Montague; a sister, Marilyn H. Rodden of Pompano Beach, Fla.; and two granddaughters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church renovation fund at 84 K St., Turners Falls 01376.


Melinda J. Besko

Melinda J. Besko, 26, of Easthampton, a departmental assistant in the Hatch Cafeteria, died April 13 at home after a short illness.

She had served the University since August of last year.

A graduate of Easthampton High School, she was assistant leader of Girl Scout Troop 146 in Easthampton.

She leaves her father and her stepmother, Thomas and Mary Ann Besko; a sister, Jennifer Flaherty; and a stepsister, Maria Etkin, all of Easthampton; a stepbrother, John Stephens of Northampton; her grandmothers, Anita Landry and Jennie Besko, both of Easthampton; and several nieces and nephews.

Francena B. Bradley

Francena B. Bradley, 75, of Belchertown, a retired lab assistant in Hotel, Restaurant and Travel Administration, died April 19.

She served the University for more than 13 years before retiring in 1987. She previously was the manager of the Valentine Hall snack bar, and she wrote a column, "Kitchen and Stuff," for the Belchertown Sentinel.

She leaves a son, Robert W. Jr. of Belchertown; a daughter, Betty L. Beaubien, of Jacksonville, N.C.; four sisters, Ruth Weaver of Florida, Rosemund Wills of Granby, Emma Weaver of Pelham and Everal "Toffie" Matuzus of New Hampshire; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
