Strangers and Neighbors

Maurianne Adams, associate professor in the Social Justice Education Program in the School of Education, and Afro-American Studies professor John Bracey penned the cover story in the Nov. 3 issue of The Chronicle Review. The two are well-versed on the subject matter. They co-taught a course on the topic and co-edited a book, "Strangers and Neighbors: Relations Between Blacks and Jews in the United States," published earlier this year by the UMass Press.

Bouncing back

John D. Kendall, retired head of Special Collections and Rare Books, is recovering at his Prince Edward Island home after undergoing surgery for a brain tumor. According to his son, Thom, a photographer at Photo Services, Kendall is "doing pretty well" after completing radiation treatments to the 30 percent of the tumor that could not be removed surgically. In a note published in the Library Information Bulletin, Kendall wrote, "At any rate, I am able to cope with the details of daily life at home, and it's good to be here—good therapy, too. I have even done a little cooking, and of course I can navigate the house."
