Cevallos given permanent appointment as vice chancellor
After serving more than two years as interim vice chancellor for Student Affairs, F. Javier Cevallos this week received a permanent appointment with the new title of vice chancellor for Student Affairs and Campus Life.

Efforts to counter violence against women get boost
The Everywoman's Center is in line to receive a $392,238 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice through its Program to Combat Violent Crimes Against Women on Campuses, according to an Oct. 13 press release from Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy's office.

Board backs plans for student laptop computers
Citing the need to improve information technology at the state public campuses, the Board of Higher Education this week approved a $123 million plan that would require students to buy and use their own laptop computers.

Fifty percent participation is goal in $440,000 COMECC drive
Chancellor David K. Scott announced a plan to increase support for this year's Commonwealth of Massachusetts Employee Charitable Campaign (COMECC) at an Oct. 12 kickoff breakfast.

Individuals, teams receive ACE awards
Auxiliary Services honored two individuals and two teams of staff for their outstanding performance during 1999-2000 with Achievement, Competence, Excellence awards Oct. 4.

Campbell comes to LDSS as interim director; Silver returns to teaching
Learning Disabilities Support Services (LDSS) is under new leadership this year. Interim director Diane Campbell, '88, '00G, took the reigns for a one-year appointment on Aug. 27.
