Schafer joins Library staff

erald (Jay) Schafer has joined the Library staff
as coordinator of Collection Development at the rank of librarian
V.
In his new post,
he will manage the work of selectors and bibliographers and shape
the growth of library collections.
Schafer comes
from the Hatch Library at Bay Path College in Longmeadow, where
he served as director of library and information services since
1997. At Bay Path, Schafer guided the library through the introduction
of new technologies to improve management and research capabilities.
From 1984 to
1997, Schafer held a number of posts at the Auraria Library at the
University of Colorado in Denver. When he left Colorado, he was
assistant director for research services, with responsibility for
managing reference, instruction and collection development.
Earlier in his
career, he was an area manager for the Denver Public Library and
was librarian and director of professional communications for the
architectural firm of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.
Schafer holds
a master's degree in librarianship from the University of Denver.
