Graduates Urged to Fight for Equality
The nearly 4,000 graduates on the rain-wet field of McGuirk Alumni Stadium
at Sunday's 130th commencement ceremony brought more than umbrellas and
cameras with them. They carried pinwheels and flags, beach balls and balloons,
champagne and cell phones, bubble-blowers, flowers, whistles, confetti,
toddlers, and even each other as they marched to their seats.
Senate
Opens Debate on Budget Plan
The Senate this week began debate on a proposed $21.55 billion budget
plan for Fiscal Year 2001, which begins July 1.
Other
Ceremonies and Events
Salute Graduates
Graduation celebrations around campus last Saturday honored students in
a variety of programs. The Isenberg School of Management held its first-ever
graduation celebration, and the School of Nursing, the Stockbridge School
of Agriculture, the Graduate School and the ROTC program continued their
annual traditions.
Senate

As the Faculty Senate wrapped up its business for the academic year on
May 11, members also set the stage for the coming year by filling two

Three
Decades Ago,
Commencement Was a Sober
Mix of Pomp and Protest
Commencement ceremonies in recent memory have been exuberant, boisterous,
sometimes madcap affairs where students celebrate the end of their academic
careers.
Recycled
Plastic 'Timbers' Hold Up Under Field Conditions
At first glance, the two seven-foot retaining walls near the Intermediate
Processing Facility at Tillson Farm appear pretty ordinary, though one
certainly looks a little distressed.
Clinical
Nursing Faculty Reach Out to Students, Community Members
Sure, they are teachers and mentors, but they are also important community
resources outside the University. By providing their students with hands-on
experience in the "real world," clinical assistant professors at the School
of Nursing model the kind of careers they hope their students will have,
ones in which clients are listened to, valued and well-served.
