Health Insurance Premiums Expected
to Rise in FY01

Even a more economical deal to manage pharmacy benefits will not stave off higher health insurance premiums for 140,000 state employees and their families in the coming year, a Group Insurance Commission official said last week.

Families Moved After Lead Paint Found
at Apartments

Housing Services has moved 14 families with children younger than six years of age to North Village Apartments after lead paint was discovered at the Lincoln Apartments complex. State and federal laws designed for the protection of children younger than six required the University to relocate the families.

Workshop Trains Staff in
Violence-Prevention Techniques

Building on a growing awareness of violence against women that began with several reported attacks on campus last semester, the Campus Violence Prevention Initiative this week sponsored a two-day workshop that organizers hope will help reduce future levels of violence by men. The initiative was organized after alumnus Jackson Katz spoke on campus Dec. 1 about preventing such violence.

Verse-atility of Buses Tested
Bus travel is becoming a poetic experience. With the help of the Poetry Society of America (PSA), MassLive, the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority (PVTA), and design companies Titanium and Impress Inc., graduate students in Creative Writing are bringing poems-on-posters to area buses. The project kicks off March 11 with a party and poetry reading at the Fine Arts Center.

Outstanding Employees Honored with Custodial Services Award
Custodial Services in Physical Plant is honoring two staff members as Employees of the Year. An outgrowth of the Employee of the Month program, which the department began in 1995, the award is in its second year.
