Custodial Services in Physical Plant is
honoring two staff members as Employees of the Year. An outgrowth
of the Employee of the Month program, which the department began
in 1995, the award is in its second year.
Teresa Czupkiewicz, maintainer I, who was selected from among
day shift employees, received her award at a ceremony on Feb.
29. Maintainer I John Glaszcz, the night shift recipient, is ill
and will receive his award when he is feeling better, according
to Ron Lenois, assistant director of Physical Plant for Custodial
Services.
The award recognizes a number of qualities: team work, quantity
and quality of work, excellence in performance, attendance, participation
in training, and enhancing the depart-ment's ability to reach
its goal of customer satisfaction.
Czupkiewicz, who won the first Employee of the Month award five
years ago, has been with the department for 14 years.
"She's kept her work ethics," said Lenois. "Her dedication, work
ethics, customer service and pride in her work have never wavered.
Teresa has received numerous accolades from her customers and
co-workers alike."
Lenois noted that Czupkiewicz's mother, Mary Lavalle, set a good
example for her, serving in Custodial Services for nine years
for a total of nearly 20 years at the University.
"It was nice to be recognized," Czupkiewicz said. "I appreciate
that."
Glaszcz, a 10-year veteran of the department, exhibits an infectious
positive attitude toward his work, Lenois said.
"He is thorough - striving not only to produce quantity but
quality work," he said. "John is a team player with a reputation
as a quiet, no-nonsense employee. He takes pride in his work and
is a leader among his peers. I'd like to have a hundred of him."
The awards consist of a plaque, a certificate signed by Earl
Smith, director of Physical Plant, and a gift certificate to the
Campus Center Store. Glaszcz and Czupkiewicz will also have their
names placed on the Employee of the Year plaque, which hangs in
the Custodial Services Hall of Fame, located in the custodial
office area.
