Alcohol Policy Amended
Starting in the fall, the campus's alcohol policy will specify instances
in which parents or legal guardians of dependent students under 21 are
to be notified of alcohol violations. This change was made in order
to conform to a Board of Trustees policy requiring that parents or guardians
be notified of alcohol violations.
Surge
in Research Funds Noted
External funding for campus research is exceeding expectations this
year, according to Chancellor David Scott, who recently announced that
the increase in funding is double what was anticipated by University
officials.

Seeks Ideas for Time Capsule
The campus's Millennium Committee is inviting the University community
to submit suggestions for the Year 2000 UMass Time Capsule, to be installed
in the crypt of the Old Chapel during a campus celebration on May 1.

Admitted Under Point Plan
Along with meeting Board of Higher Education requirements and providing
access to qualified state residents, the new admissions policy announced
last month will seek to emphasize students' success and recognize their
full potential while maintaining a diverse undergraduate body, according
to associate provost Bryan Harvey.

Science Graduate School Passes
The Board of Trustees approved the Intercampus Graduate School of Marine
Sciences and Technology at its Feb. 2 meeting on the Boston.
