Cellucci Plan Level Funds University
The University system would be level-funded next year under the Fiscal 2001 budget proposal filed last week by Gov. A. Paul Cellucci.

UHS Dental Clinic to Close;
Staff to Pitch Plan to Preserve Service

Prompted by a consultant's report about financial problems within University Health Services, campus officials announced last week that the dental clinic will close on July 1. The clinic employs seven staff.

Margulis to Receive National
Medal of Science

President Clinton this week named Lynn Margulis, Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Geosciences, one of 12 winners of the 1999 National Medal of Science. The medal honors the discoveries and lifetime achievements of the nation's top scientists. Margulis is being cited for "outstanding contributions to the understanding of the structure and evolution of living cells, and for extraordinary abilities as a teacher and communicator of science to the public."

School of Ed. Moves to Boost Pass Rate on Certification Exam
The School of Education has been preparing for a possible upcoming requirement by the state that 80 percent of its students pass the Massachusetts Educator Certification Tests.

Croft Appointed Distinguished Professor
W. Bruce Croft, a member of the Computer Science faculty, has been appointed a Distinguished Professor by President William M Bulger. The appointment was made Wednesday following approval by the Board of Trustees at its meeting in Boston. The honor recognizes Croft for outstanding academic distinction.
