Deborah Madison

Deborah Madison was the founding chef of Greens restaurant in San Francisco, which is still drawing crowds after 25 years!

She is also the author of eight cookbooks, including Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone, Local Flavors, Cooking and Eating from America's Farmers Markets, and most recently, Vegetable Soups from Deborah Madison's Kitchen.  Two of her books were named the Julia Child Cookbook of the Year, and she has won several James Beard awards for her writing, including a Who's Who in American Wine and Food award in 2005.

Deborah also writes for magazines, such as Gourmet, Saveur, Orion, Cooking Light and Eating Well.  She has long been and advocate of local, seasonal eating since opening her first restaurant in l979.  She managed her local farmers market for many years, works to help establish farmer-chef connections, is a frequent speaker at conferences on food and farming. Deborah is very involved in the Slow Food movement both here and in Italy. She lives in Galiesto, New Mexico.
