The Deputy Chancellor works closely with the Chancellor, promoting his vision and priorities, and initiating efforts to improve the quality of the campus and maintain the upward trajectory of the University. The Deputy Chancellor represents the Chancellor and acts as his liaison with internal constituencies, such as faculty, staff, and students, as well as the Vice Chancellors, Deans, Faculty Senate, student government, and other campus leadership bodies. He also represents the Chancellor to external campus constituencies such as the President’s Office, Board of Trustees, Legislature, and Governor’s Office, supporting the University’s academic, research, outreach, and service missions.
The portfolio of the Deputy Chancellor includes oversight of several University units, including Equal Opportunity and Diversity and the Ombuds Office. In addition, the Deputy Chancellor is charged with the day-to-day administration of the Chancellor’s Office, seeking to maximize efficiency and productivity and ensuring the creation of a collaborative environment that is responsive to the campus community. Furthermore, the Deputy Chancellor has oversight of ongoing administrative quality control functions across administrative units such as Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Administration and Finance.
The Deputy Chancellor also plays a key role in initiating, coordinating, and facilitating University-wide quality enhancement efforts that require collaboration across campus areas. To accomplish this, the Deputy Chancellor oversees the implementation of campus-level initiatives arising from the strategic planning process and seeks to maximize transparency and collaboration in decision-making.
