Athletic Director

john mccutcheonIntercollegiate Athletics at the University of Massachusetts has been part of the fabric of the institution since its inception. Today, as the University advances its flagship status and position among the nation’s premier research and teaching institutions, athletics can play and important complimentary role.

Looking at the institutions with which we strive to align ourselves and particularly members of the prestigious American Association of Universities, virtually all have nationally competitive and prominent NCAA Division I athletic programs. This speaks volumes about how these institutions demand excellence at the highest level in every area of the enterprise. This holds true at UMass as well. We are committed to maintaining a nationally competitive, broad based program that strives to inspire champions today and prepare leaders for tomorrow.

>As Director of Athletics I accept the responsibility to guide our program in a way that will encourage student-athletes to achieve their highest academic, athletic and personal aspirations. Our focus is on building winning programs, providing the best possible student-athlete experience and doing it the right way within a professionally managed program. I welcome this charge with respect and excitement as we look forward to what I believe will be one of the most productive and successful periods in the history of our University and the Athletics program. Go Minutemen! Go UMass!
