As the stature of our university continues to grow, both as the flagship campus of the Commonwealth and as a premier national public research institution, the importance of communicating our considerable achievements to the public grows as well.
Within University Relations, it is our responsibility to tell the impressive story of UMass Amherst: our faculty and their global research; our students who are preparing to lead; and our hundreds of thousands of alumni who make the world a better place every day.
The broad portfolio of University Relations includes marketing and communications, media relations, government relations, community relations, event planning, economic development and regional partnerships, and WFCR – the region’s premier public radio station. University Relations harnesses the resources and expertise of these distinct entities in a coordinated and strategic way to ensure that the powerful message of the University of Massachusetts reaches all of our varied audiences, both internal and external.
University Relations also serves as the in-house public relations firm for the entire campus. In this role, we provide expertise in writing and editing, graphic design, web design and production, media and public relations, social media, and photography.
In this era of instant communication, where potential students, their parents, and the public at large have mountains of data at their finger tips instantaneously, University Relations must be nimble enough to meet the communications challenges of our great university.
