Haiti Earthquake Campus Response
-
January 26, 2010
To Faculty and Staff:
Following the devastating earthquake in Haiti, individuals and organizations from around the globe mobilized to provide aid to the people of Haiti. On our own campus, several efforts are underway both to acknowledge the tragedy and to contribute toward recovery and reconstruction.
The Division of Student Affairs and Campus Life, the International Programs Office, and other campus organizations are working together collectively as UMass Haiti Relief. Through their efforts, numerous fund raising activities are being planned. Given the extent of the devastation in Haiti, relief efforts will be prolonged and I encourage you, on an ongoing basis, to check the UMass Amherst website dedicated to campus efforts at www.umass.edu/umhome/haiti.
Faculty and staff who would like to make a monetary donation may also do so through the University of Massachusetts Amherst Charitable Campaign (UMACC), which offers the opportunity to contribute via cash, check, or payroll donation to a number of organizations that are already active in the Haitian earthquake relief efforts. Several of these organizations are included on the extensive list that the University Libraries developed as a resource guide for helping Haiti. The list can be accessed at guides.library.umass.edu/haiti. To make a donation through UMACC, please email umacc@admin.umass.edu or go to www.umass.edu/umacc/pledge_form.doc to print a pledge form. You may begin a new payroll deduction or increase an existing payroll deduction at any time.
We extend our heartfelt condolences and concern to all those affected by this tragedy.
