The End of the 2009–2010 Academic Year

To All UMass Amherst Students:
As gusty winds blew across campus yesterday afternoon it seemed like the physical manifestation of the whirlwind of activity here at the end of the academic year. You're trying to stay on course as you weather final exams, papers, recitals, tournaments, job searches, and goodbyes—all at once. I wish you smooth sailing through this swirling academic storm as we close the semester.
In the calm that follows the storm, our campus will be quieter after commencement, but still humming. Daughtry will appear at the Mullins Center in June, we'll have another two weeks of fantastic performances at Jazz in July, there will be seminars and workshops on campus, and you can still register for summer session classes both on campus and online. Research surges forward year-round in our labs. So we look forward to seeing many of you on campus in the next few months.
The UMass Amherst administration will keep working to make this an even better place for all students when you return for the fall semester. We'll be lobbying legislators for budgetary support and striving to further enhance your academic experience. In the fall, we will also be welcoming another group of excellent first-year students selected from a record number of applicants. UMass Amherst just gets better and better.
For those of you not returning in the fall, congratulations on your commencement! I look forward to seeing you at Commencement Ball and on Commencement Weekend. We have celebrations planned all over our campus and it promises to be a great occasion worthy of the outstanding class of 2010.
